THE ROLE
As part of the Engineering & Maintenance Regional Team, the Process Safety Engineer and E&M Support will play a key role in driving process safety excellence across Western Europe manufacturing sites. This position combines technical leadership in Process Safety Management with regional expertise in SAP PM, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient plant operations.
The Process Safety Engineer and E&M Support will act as a trusted advisor to site teams, support the implementation of corporate safety standards, and contribute to the standardization of engineering and maintenance practices across the region. This role requires regular collaboration with plant teams, EHS, Engineering, Maintenance, and Corporate Process Safety functions. The key responsibilities include:
- Lead and support process safety activities across Western European plants.
- Act as the regional point of contact for Process Safety, ensuring compliance with corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations.
- Participate in or lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), HAZOP studies, Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSR), and incident investigations.
- Review and support Management of Change (MOC) processes to ensure process safety risks are adequately addressed.
- Conduct risk assessments and provide process safety input for EHS impact assessments for engineering projects.
- Support sites during audits, management reviews, and interactions with regulatory authorities on process safety matters.
- Deliver process safety training and foster a strong safety culture throughout the region.
- Report Process Safety KPIs and collaborate with Corporate Process Safety teams and global communities.
- Serve as the regional SAP PM expert, providing support, training, implementation guidance, and continuous improvement across all plants.
- Develop and maintain maintenance strategies, including preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Create and monitor maintenance KPIs and prepare regular performance reports through SAP PM.
- Support industrial legal compliance related to engineering and maintenance activities.
- Review and follow up on engineering-related Management of Change documentation.
- Develop standardized engineering and maintenance procedures, methods, and best practices across the region.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering teams on capital projects, asset creation, change management, and technical documentation.
- Provide support in procurement activities and regional maintenance initiatives.
THE PROFILE
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering (mandatory).
- 10-15 years of experience in Process Safety within the chemical industry or a similar high-hazard manufacturing environment.
- Strong expertise in SAP PM (Plant Maintenance), including maintenance planning, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, KPI reporting, and user support.
- Solid knowledge of process safety methodologies such as HAZOP, PHA, risk assessments, incident investigation, and MOC processes.
- Understanding of industrial regulations, legal compliance requirements, technical installations, and HSE standards.
- Fluent in English (mandatory); additional European languages are an advantage.
- Postgraduate or Master's degree is desirable.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work in a regional, cross-functional environment and influence multiple sites.
- Willingness to travel across Western Europe (approximately 10% of working time).
