Job Title: Instrument Control Specialist
Location: Rockdale, IL
POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
Apollo Colors, wholly owned by Sun Chemical Corporation, is seeking an Instrument Control Specialist to join our team. The Instrument Control Specialist will be responsible for calibration, service, repair, troubleshooting and installation of electrical instrumentation and electronic control systems on site. Identify opportunities to improve processes (reduce variability, improve quality and productivity) and improve safety via the site’s control systems. Provide Instrument, Controls, and Engineering support for engineering projects. Ability to work with industrial instrumentation, network communications, automation controls, (PLC, DCS, HMI) and electrical schematics.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work closely with site and external assistance, when needed, to troubleshoot Operational Technology (OT) systems, electrical and electronic control systems to maintain production uptime.
- Identify, scope out, and implement process improvement initiatives and projects as approved on an annual basis, providing installation, programming, controls expertise. Manage the project from idea phase to completion, including internal and external resources, for small and medium projects.
- Coordinate and assist in the installation/modification of hardware and software of PLC systems by working with operations, engineering, and vendor personnel.
- Supervise pre-commissioning and start-up of new or modified systems.
- Provide maintenance personnel with direction when assistance is needed on electrical instrumentation problems.
- Ensure documentation of all control system modifications.
- Develop, implement and sustain applications providing visibility of the process floor and operation.
- Perform troubleshooting of system hardware and software and obtain services of contract specialists when required. Manage projects to optimize efficiency and minimize plant downtime.
- Manage PM and calibration programs. Maintain and document the calibration of site instrumentation.
- Maintain documentation of the site electrical/electronic drawings and schematics to ensure the integrity of the system.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associates degree in Electrical Instrumentation/Electronics Technology, Electrical Apprenticeship Training or equivalent experience.
- 3 – 5 years Industrial Automation, Installation and Troubleshooting experience
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs, plant electrical power systems and OT network systems.
- Ability to manage and direct projects utilizing internal and external resources to completion.
- Able to identify improvement opportunities, prepare and present project scope to site leadership for approval of implementation.
- Capable of self-directed investigating and probing to understand all site control systems.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Ability to work a variety of shift schedules
- Familiarity with Rockwell, Intellution, SQL, Allen Bradley and Batch Software
Hourly: $28/hr - $33.75/hr
