CHEMICAL OPERATOR - Wilmington, DE (Rotating Shift)

 

The Finishing Chemical Operator is responsible for completing production activities to ensure safe production through the execution of Toyota Production System (TPS) principles, tools, and techniques. The Finishing Operator is responsible for troubleshooting, completing accurate production reporting, and assisting with on-the-job training for new employees in the assigned operating area.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and work with analytical and mechanical equipment, including troubleshooting such equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently at times using SOPs and work instructions.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn operating with PLC interfaces
  • Good understanding of 5S, visual management, production targets, standard work and other Lean tools
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime beyond normally scheduled work hours
  • Willingness and ability to participate as a member of the site’s emergency response team
  • Support and adhere to the principles of the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care® by protecting the environment, health, safety and security of our employees, contractors, carriers, distributors, visitors, customers and neighbors.  Be knowledgeable of and follow all Environmental, Health and Safety practices including but not limited to: manage waste movements according to satellite and/or 90-day accumulation requirements, inspect air contaminant sources and institute corrective action for out-of-spec conditions, prevent releases into the sewer and/or stormwater systems by following BMPs (best management practices), activate Sun Chemical emergency response procedures in case of spills or other emergencies.  Comply with the requirements of the ISO9001:2015 Quality Management System.
  • Executes the area TPS initiatives daily:  Standard work, 5S/Visual Management, Mistake proofing, Autonomous Maintenance, Problem solving
  • Responsible for completing and submitting daily shift notes and batch cards while ensure that all SOPs are followed.  
  • Assist in equipment inspections and calibration checks.  Identification of equipment malfunctions and communication of issues to supervision so that maintenance notifications can be entered for repairs.
  • Participate in training of operators.  Communicate to supervision when an SOP is inaccurate or unclear.  Be available and able to cross train in other areas of the Finishing operations.

 

Education & Experience:

 

  • HS Diploma/Equivalent
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Products

 

Preferred:

 

  • Six Sigma/Lean training/certification 
  • 2 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in Batch Chemical Operations
  • Experience in pigment finishing operations 
  • Experience using Lean  tools in a manufacturing environment
