Overview The EH&S Manager at Newport is a leadership role, responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory agency and company EH&S requirements. Newport is a highly regulated site, featuring process safety management (PSM) and a complex Title V permit among other regulations.

 

As the lead contact for all EH&S programs, the manager develops and maintains audit programs to enhance site EH&S initiatives. This role is crucial in promoting a safe workplace by identifying and eliminating unsafe behaviors and conditions and championing behavioral changes. Additionally, the manager collaborates with other site and corporate functions to integrate and foster a robust safety culture.

 

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure that all activities are performed in a safe manner. Support and adhere to the principles of SunCare, federal and state regulations by protecting the environment, health, safety and security of our employees, contractors, carriers, distributors, visitors, customers and neighbors.

  • Be knowledgeable of the following health and safety practices including, but not limited to, process safety management, confined space entry procedures, lock-out tag-out practices, develop job hazard analyses (JHAs), proper PPE selection, and project safety and environmental reviews. 
  • Comply with the requirements of the ISO9001:2105 Quality Management System in maintaining documentation control standards.
  • Manage the overall PSM program, coordinate with other element owners to ensure a harmonious and compliant program.
  • Partner with the site and corporate leadership team to develop and implement the overall EH&S improvement strategies.

 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor of science degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, engineering, or similar technical discipline required.
  • Extensive expertise in EH&S regulations and technical aspects, with a strong focus on Process Safety Management (PSM) and occupational safety is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of Title V and Delaware EH&S regulatory requirements is a strong plus.  Certified Safety Professional Certification is also a plus.
  • 10 years’ experience in managing EH&S programs in a chemical manufacturing environment with a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Excellent skills related to written and verbal communication, team leadership, mentoring/ coaching, entrepreneurship, results orientation, strategic thinking, and influencing/persuasiveness.
  • Ability to effectively interact with and influence corporate and site leadership, elected officials and regulatory agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders and representatives.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in safety and environmental compliance.
  • Consensus builder.
  • Must be proficient at Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and other software systems.
