Powerhouse Operator - Newport, DE

 

The Powerhouse Operator performs all daily utility related activities and operations for the site utilities including operation of steam generating boilers, wastewater and storm water management systems, fugitive emissions thermal oxidizer, plant air compressors, monitoring of nitrogen production, and purchased water pumps. You will also support the Metasheen operation. You will be responsible for ensuring that the production objectives are met in a safe and cost-effective manner.

 

Responsibilities:
• Start up, monitor, trouble shoot, and shut down all operations that produce sites utilities; control of these operations via Wonderware HMI & PLC.
• Support maintenance with breakdowns in all utility operations.
• Monitor Metasheen operation when the operation is idling, and no Metasheen operator is present.
• Special procedures, for example:
• Permit to Work, equipment lockouts, electrical isolations.
• Operating heavy equipment (fork truck),
• Review performance losses (lost time) and process anomalies with the Supervisor.
• Assist in achieving site’s financial targets and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).
• Housekeeping and 5S sustainability.
• Support and adhere to the principles of the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care® by protecting the environment, health, safety and security of our employees, contractors, carriers, distributors, visitors, customers, and neighbors.
• Be knowledgeable of and follow all EH&S practices including but not limited to: manage waste movements according to satellite and/or 90-day accumulation requirements, inspect air contaminant sources and institute corrective action for out-of-spec conditions, prevent releases into the sewer and/or storm water systems by following BMPs (best management practices), activate emergency response procedures in case of spills or other emergencies.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory policies regarding boiler and thermal oxidizer operation. Record hourly and daily averages and maintain accurate logs.
• Comply with the requirements of the ISO9001:2105 Quality Management System.

 

Education & Experience:

* HS Diploma or GED

• Commitment to providing 24-hour Powerhouse & Infrastructure coverage, through scheduled 12-hour shifts. Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Dependable verbal shift relief on time (5:15 AM and 5:15 PM).
• Good communication skills, and an ability to interact with both internal and external resources via telephone, radio, cell phone, or computer-based messaging.
• Computer skills: Microsoft Office,. Capable of working computer based Human Machine Interfaces (Wonderware) with interfaces to PLC systems.
• Ability to understand and work with utility operations equipment, trouble shoot instrumentation & control systems and perform basic analytical tests on boiler operations in order to ensure operational reliability and continuous steam generation.
• 4+ years’ experience in production operations.
• Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to reach and lift with hands and arms and to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to twenty pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.
  • Required to ascend/descend ladders or steps.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


Hours of Work:  12-hr shift, flexible to work nights, weekends, and holiday.
