Maintenance Pump Mechanic – Newport, DE. (dayshift)

Overview – The Maintenance Pump Mechanic role primarily works within the maintenance organization to troubleshoot, pull, disassemble, inspect, rebuild, install, and commission pumps of all kinds. This role also does other maintenance tasks as required as part of the maintenance team.  This role works approximately 70% in the maintenance shop and 30% in the operating plant.

• Job Duties:
  • Comply with all company and site policies and procedures. 
  • Troubleshoot/diagnose/pull/disassemble/rebuild/install
    • Centrifugal pumps (ANSI, between bearings, API, vertical, self priming)
    • Positive displacement pumps (lobe, reciprocating, diaphragm, progressive cavity, etc.)
  • Perform laser alignments
  • Rig pumps in and out of installed locations
  • Work with planner/maintenance specialist/storeroom for parts, BOM creation/editing, 
  • Work with vendors as required
  • Perform other maintenance duties as required:
    • Remove and install valve
    • Remove and install piping components
    • Install and remove blanks and blinds
    • Various mechanical repairs on various types of equipment (belt drives, couplings, gearboxes, agitators, rigging, etc)
  • Work closely with other maintenance personnel, production personnel, engineers, managers, etc. to solve problems
  • Participate on site improvement teams.

• Required knowledge:
  • Bearings and correct handing/installation methods
  • Mechanical seals and correct handing/installation methods
  • Packing and installation methods
  • Rigging
  • Laser Alignment
  • Couplings
  • Measurement devices and proper use (micrometers, dial calipers, dial indicator, inside micrometer, tape measure, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, prints, instructions, and procedures.

• Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience related to the job roles and responsibilities
  • Ability to drive forklift
  • Ability to use scissor lift or boom lift
  • Physical Requirements: 
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach and lift with hands and arms and to talk or hear.
    • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. 
    • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. 
    • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to twenty pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. 
    • The employee is required to ascend/descend ladders or steps.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • Employee is required to be respirator qualified.
• Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in an industrial maintenance organization
  • Chemical manufacturing experience
  • Working knowledge of SAP maintenance modules
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 
  • Working knowledge of pump curves and their use in troubleshooting
• Employee must supply their own basic hand tools as follows
  • Combo wrenches from 3/8” to 1 ¼”. Must have doubles used for back up.
  • Combo wrenches from 10mm to 32mm. Must have doubles used for back up
  • Channel locks 
  • 3/8” drive standard socket set up to 7/8 “
  • 3/8” drive metric socket set up to 22mm
  • 1/2" drive socket set up to 1 ¼”
  • 1/2" drive socket set up to 32mm
  • Hammers regular and dead blow
  • Wire cutters 
  • Tin snips 
  • Pipe wrenches 14”-24”
  • Snap ring pliers
  • Packing pullers
  • Allen wrenches (metric and standard)
