Job Title: Business Development Manager

 

Location: Remote, Northern Great Lakes Region

 

Travel Requirement: 50% including overnight, Northern Great Lakes Region

 

As a key member of the Advanced Materials commercial team, the Business Development Manager for Polymers is responsible for identifying the business needs of the assigned customer base and delivering a solution to the customers that creates value for both Sun Chemical and the customer.

  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

Planning and Implementation

 

  • Seek input from all stakeholders and develop strategic plans for the product lines. This includes defining scope of opportunities, competitive landscape, identification of targets, attractive segments and maintaining a healthy project pipeline using customer relationship management software (salesforce.com).
  • Implement business plans that will meet or exceed targets and create sustainable long-term profitable growth that align with strategic plans.
  • Maintain existing business, ensure service levels are met, and enrich key customer relationships.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty are achieved cost effectively. Planning and communication to ensure customer visits and other interactions create value and involve colleagues to create a team-based approach to developing customer relationships. Ensure effective product testing, trials, and approvals are achieved through a project management approach.
  • Increase market share and strategic growth segments of the business. Work collaboratively with Operations, Technical Managers, and Sales Managers to establish alignment with strategy.

 

Pricing and Margin Management

 

  • Optimize price and profit for each individual customer by maximizing value and gross margin targets for the territory.
  • Work closely with Advanced Materials Marketing Director to ensure territory and product goals are being met and actions are executed in line with product strategy.
  • Consistently review pricing for accuracy and confirm pricing policy is consistently applied in their respective product lines. Ensure sound pricing and terms are applied, demonstrating a holistic understanding of costs, pricing, and margin.
  • Spearhead new product launches efforts required in the territory.
  • Work with peers and colleagues to win new business through a team-based approach.  

 

Product and Technical Matters

 

  • Advocate for the customer on all technical and commercial matters.
  • Coordinate with R&D, Operations and Customer Service to ensure successful closure of technical and customer service issues.
  • Work with Marketing to assist in product literature, communications, or other promotional work.
  • Provide a sufficient level of expert technical customer support. Remain current and technically competent within applications. Maintains an active role in industry trade associations.
  • Contribute positively to the efforts of the product development team.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Technical Degree, B.S. degree; or equivalent level of industry experience.
  • 5+ years of industry formulation experience in coatings and compounding.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including oral, written, and formal presentation skills together with the ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Superior critical thinking skills.
  • Computer literacy with MS Office Suite software, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Project and competence with customer relationship management software.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • 3-5 years of field technical sales experience.
