Overview:
Under the supervision of the Regional Maintenance Manager, the maintenance supervisor is responsible for planning, directing, and controlling the activities of the maintenance off-shift work force, training personnel in maintaining high standards with respect to safety, quality and timely completion of tasks; maintaining equipment in good working order; works with Plant Engineer and Maintenance Planning Manager on small to medium capital projects and implements continuous improvements. Works with vendors to stock and maintain the VMI Cage for plant needs.
Essential Job Functions:
Maintenance Efficiency & Budget Control:
- Assist with the planning and scheduling of equipment repairs with budget guidelines
- Implement preventative maintenance processes to minimize unexpected downtime.
- Work with the Plant Engineering team to implement capital projects to improve safety, manufacturing efficiencies, and quality.
- Requisitions, schedules, and provides field oversight of resources, outside contractors, and suppliers of maintenance services performing work at the site.
- Utilizes SAP Plant Maintenance effectively to manage work orders
- Prepares, communicates, and maintains written records of employee performance, time, and attendance.
- Implement and enforce procedures to control expenses within budgeted guidelines.
- Ensure that all ISO work instructions are followed as required by the ISO 9001-2000 standards.
- Interfaces with all other departments to ensure the entire workforce is aware of the status of all projects and maintenance activities as it effects the flow of production.
Safety:
- Train employees to practice safe and efficient work techniques to minimize potential injuries and hazardous conditions.
- Conduct safety meetings and inspections in a timely manner.
- Survey equipment for proper maintenance, repair, or renewal as required.
- Ensure that employees wear the appropriate safety attire and protective equipment at all times.
- Maintain all training documents for their direct reports.
Supervision & Leadership:
- Plan, organize, and direct scheduled and break-in work for the off-shift maintenance crew to meet plant requirements.
- Lead and motivate the workforce positively and effectively handle employee/labor relations issues, including, but not limited to, training, counseling, discipline, and conflict resolution.
- Comply with standard human resource practices, facility work rules, and the collective bargaining agreement to foster positive employee morale, enhanced productivity, and a fair and equitable work environment.
- Assign work orders to established priorities and communicate special instructions.
- Coordinate and communicate departmental needs with operations during off-shifts
Quality:
- Ensure that all quality protocols and procedures are followed.
- Evaluate and review quality performance in accordance with established guidelines, adjust to changes in the organization, evaluate training requirements, and initiate appropriate and timely corrective actions.
Housekeeping:
- Lead by example to ensure that employees maintain acceptable levels of housekeeping at all times with regard to equipment and their assigned work area and/or department.
Administrative/Cost Control:
- Process work orders and schedules in SAP in a timely manner.
- Develop controls to take action and stay within the approved budget.
Required Education and Experience:
- Candidates must possess 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a maintenance department within a unionized facility.
- 5+ years in an industry environment with experience in electrical maintenance, Instrumentation, and safety.
- High School diploma or equivalent is required: College coursework or degree is preferred.
- Computer proficiency is required. (Microsoft Office/Outlook, Excel, SAP, or equivalent)
- Candidates must have demonstrated experience in dealing with safety, environmental, and regulatory matters.
- Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to lead and motivate others.
- Experience with ISO, Six Sigma, Lean, and Kaizen Methodology/Techniques is preferred.
Salary Range - $75,000 - $90,000
