What You'll Be Doing - The Purchasing Manager will drive and manage the assigned procurement category mix and implement the category strategies. The Purchasing Manager – Direct Procurement is a key position, within our Global Procurement unit at Sun Chemical. You will provide your input related to supply and demand market dynamics for the development of the category strategy. You will engage with the associated plants and suppliers and align supplier capabilities with Sun Chemical strategic priorities and explore creative and strategic supply solutions for new and existing raw materials.  This position is either located in Peekskill, NY or Remote.

Key Activities:

  • Develop and implement your procurement strategies and procurement processes including all connected activities
  • In alignment with internal partners such as, Production and Supply-Chain, Research and development, Safety and Regulatory, you will analyze the procurement risks and opportunities, you will implement contracts and specification agreements and secure a stable, reliable and profitable supply chain over the long term.
  • Drive the supplier qualification and evaluation activities and the consequent improvement activities. For this you will be in the leader seat and take responsibility for the timely execution of the different tasks form various stakeholders in the organization.
  • Steer negotiations with suppliers and be accountable for awarding and implementing contracts
  • Develop your product / supplier portfolio, reduce single source cases and generate savings
  • As a subject matter expert, you will lead and manage sourcing process (RFI, RFQ, RFP, etc.) for key strategic contracts to ensure the most competitive supply advantage for Sun Chemical.
  • Guarantee a systematic and regular follow-up of running projects and subsequent reporting
  • Regularly report your results to upper management
  • Your strong communication skills will be a valued asset as you conduct market intelligence research by interacting with key suppliers, industry associations, and internal stakeholders to collect industry-relevant information to assess current and future impact to Sun Chemical. In addition, you will support purchase order creation and processing as needed.

 

Successful candidates will have the following:

  • A 5 years relevant work experience (procurement or sales).
  • A degree in Business (Master, MBA)
  • Experience in Chemistry or the pigment industry is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills, negotiation experience, and good technical understanding
  • Entrepreneurial drive, have a commercial approach with strategic mindset, collaborate for achievement and strong communication skills.
